Van She dropped from Modular?

Rumors have been flying lately that Van She are about to be dropped from their record label Modular. The band played last night in Sydney at the filming of MTV’s music show, The Lair. The audience was lively enough with the usual head bopping skulk of a dance that has formed a genre of it’s own with Modular’s bands in particular. There were also the generic two or three psychos who take the essence of ‘dance like nobody’s watching’ a little too far and appear to be violently fitting, creating a three meter radius of an exclusion zone around themselves. And yes, they had the ‘crazy’ hair thing going on.
Apart from Van She’s hit EP Kelly that also included the popular song Sex City (released in 2005), the past three years have seen a lack of decent songs. As other Modular bands such as The Presets and Cut Copy have taken off in their own respective ways, Van She have been getting lower on line up lists and their latest album release in April this year passed without so much as a whisper. Given, Van She did support Daft Punk at one of the biggest and most hyped up concerts of the past few years, Neverland. However while The Presets had the crowd spazzeming to their new release Kicking and Screaming, Van She’s latest and greatest was Cat in the Eye which was pretty much the only song on their album that stirred so much as head nod.
While Van She have scored themselves a spot in the line up for this years Splendour in the Grass at Byron Bay, their names appeared on the Parklife line up somewhere between XXXChange and Bag Raiders. A far cry from their promising rise in 2005. Their performance at The Lair certainly wasn’t boring, but the stand out band of the night was Snob Scrilla, who had even the most conservative of toe tappers jumping like they meant it.
