Places Like This..

Architecture in Helsinki's latest album has launched them into a genre of their own. With jangling shrieks and throbbing synthesizers, the group have created a sound that gives off the energy of a bunch of excitable kids that have just discovered that banging two things together makes noise. Intricate songs such as their hit Heart it Races have a catchy melody with a tribalistic thumping bridge where singer Cameron Bird literally shrieks into a goose bump inducing climatic scream. Whilst keeping to their playful sound the entire album is laced with a sense of doom. Lyrics such as “a knife serrated, I’ll protect you” allude to their darker side, whilst being curiously disguised by their playful melodies. Places Like This is nothing short of a genius creation. 5/5 stars.
